University of Illinois System

Academic Unit Review

The Academic Unit Review Dashboard provides one-page summaries of demographic, instructional, research and expenditure information for each academic unit of each campus. The Dashboard was designed by the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, in consultation with the President, Chancellors, Provosts, University Senates Conference, USC Academic Affairs Committee, VPAA Faculty Advisory Committee, campus institutional research offices, Decision Support, and the Office of Planning and Budgeting.

The dashboard pages are snapshots that provide essential data for understanding how an academic unit contributes to the University’s teaching and research missions. But they cannot, and are not meant to, provide in themselves a full understanding of the nature, stature, or importance of any academic unit in relation to the essential functions of the University. They are intended to complement and contribute to, but not replace, the much more extensive and nuanced information required on each campus to conduct a full review of any academic unit.

Unit demographic data and teaching and student outcomes data are compared to campus average data. Five year unit data trends for units cover the previous five academic years. The same format is used for all unit dashboards, with this exception: the top right section for Urbana and Chicago dashboards provides information on research productivity measured by research expenditures and faculty scholarly productivity; the corresponding section for Springfield provides metrics for teaching efficiencies.
